Boating & Water Sports

Our area boasts more than twenty boat launches on eleven lakes and at three points along the Athabasca River. No matter the type of adventure you seek, there are plenty of options in the Athabasca region!

Jet Boating

jet boating

A jet boat is propelled by expelling water out of the back of the craft. This is the boat of choice for river enthusiasts, where sandbars, rocks, and other hazards make propellers risky. Launch your boat from the Town of Athabasca or the day use areas at Poacher’s Landing or Richmond Park, and enjoy the ample wildlife, incredible history of trade, and stunning scenery.

Water Sports

If you want to take things up a notch, the Athabasca region has some great options for water-skiing and tubing.

Forfar Recreation Park, located on Long Lake, is a popular spot for thrill seekers.  The lake gets its name honestly and is perfect for some fun on the water. Island Lake and North Buck Lake are two other places for you to splash around.

Canoeing

For those seeking a quieter adventure, canoeing is a relaxing way to explore any shoreline and enjoy a peaceful summer’s evening. Jackfish Lake is popular with local canoeists, but with more than two dozen lakes in the region, you have plenty of options to paddle this summer.
