Athabasca University, while an open and online university, has been based in the Town of Athabasca since 1984. It serves more than 40,000 students around the world in more than 100 online and distance learning programs.

It’s picturesque campus includes the new state-of-the-art Academic and Research Centre (ARC), AU’s Indigenous Centre, Nukskahtowin, a library, science and multimedia laboratories, a permanent collection of Canadian artwork, and more than 17 km of trails and community pathways.
